Samuel James Dengel has had the opportunity to travel all across the globe.
Throughout his career and experience with the United States Merchant Marines, Samuel James Dengel has visited many countries and cities worldwide.
Traveling is something that everyone wants to do at one point in their life. Because the world is so big and has so many countries, there are many places to go in a lifetime and a lot to choose from. As we get older we narrow down our list and have the main places that we want to go like Spain or Japan. From the moment we figure out where we want to go we begin to plan and look for different things to do in the place that we are going to be in. Saving for the trip and shopping for the trip are all of things that come with the planning.
For Samuel James Dengel, one of his favorite places he has visited so far is the city of Lisbon, Portugal.
If you are planning to go to Lisbon, a city in Portugal, you may be wondering what kind of things there are to do there. Portugal may not be on many people’s lists of places to visit in a lifetime but it should get more recognition than it does. Portugal borders Spain and its language, Portuguese, is very similar to Spanish. Knowing some of these things can convince someone to add Lisbon, Portugal to their list of places to visit. So, taking the chance, you go to Portugal and then what do you do? What places are there to go? Are there any historical buildings to tour or meaningful monuments? Well there is plenty to do in Lisbon.
What Can I do here?
One of the more popular places to visit in Lisbon is the Jeronimos Monastery. It is the resting place of explorer Vasco de Gama and it is a church. It is recognized for the beauty of its cloisters and is also noted as a World Heritage Site. This stop can be perfect for people who are highly interested in learning more about the history of Vasco de Gama and what he meant for the history of Portugal, as well as people who just want to expand their knowledge in history in general. With great interests in history and education, Samuel James Dengel found this site to be very interesting.
Another popular place to go in Lisbon, Portugal is St. George’s Castle. This Castle offers views of the city and roaming peacocks as well. Inside of St. George’s castle is a small archaeological museum for people who are interested in that. If you travel down the hill there is a terrace that overlooks the medieval-like city of Alfama. This is another thing that you can do in Lisbon if you are interested in history or if you want to get out of your comfort zone and do something that is more relaxed.
While this is only a couple of things that you can do when you go to Lisbon, there are plenty of other monuments and museums to visit as well as activities to partake in. Although it might not be on your list right now, if it ever is you will now have an idea of what you can do and where you can visit if you ever do go to Portugal. Stepping out of the comfort zone is something that everyone wants to do at one point or another and this is the perfect place to do so!
Upon visiting Lisbon, Samuel James Dengel discovered that Portugal was full of wonderful surprises. He is eager to continue his travels and make another stop in Portugal as soon as he has the chance.
